But with the launch of the Apple laptop, Apple was able to finally break free from this restrictive mold. Apple was able to separate itself from the crowd with a visually appealing product that catered to the customer’s needs and wants – a powerful computing machine that was easy to use.

Apple laptops, such as the iBook and PowerBook models, were visually unique also. This pricey high end gadget is a product we consumers want. Customers will invest in a product that solves a problem. Music, video and a cell phone all in one? Oh yes. We consumers love the all in one device.

This ultra thin device is controlled by touch sensor that plays music, will surf the Internet and even has a Macintosh computer operating system.

As I heard so far, there will not be any insurance on the Apple iPhone. You may be offered an extended warranty through Apple Care. Ask about this when you purchase your phone. This situation could be changeable once the Apple iPhone is released. We will all have to wait and see.

The Apple zones will offer over 75 Apple products and related accessories in the lead up to Christmas – with everything from Apple Macs, iTunes cards, speakers and the full range of iPods on sale.

Trained Apple staff, and specially trained Tesco staff, will be on hand to help and advise customers who are able to interact with products and accessories in the dedicated Apple zones, which are within the existing electrical areas.

The Apple iPhone is available in two versions: a 4-gigabyte model that is available for $499, and a 8-gigabyte model that is available for $599. The iPhone contract requires a two-year arrangement with AT&T service.

Because of this exclusive contract with AT&T the two models are officially only available at Apple Stores, AT&T Stores and online at the Apple website. Not surprisingly though iPhones have shown availability on the eBay online auction site.

The iPhone is especially popular because of the variety of options it offers, such as surfing the web — along with talking on the telephone. The iPhone also benefits from the brand name and reputation of Apple, which has become highly regarded over the past few years because of the iPod.

During the initial product launch many AT&T Retail stores were completely sold out of the phones within hours. Many Apple stores later ran empty as well. So customers began searching for iPhone availability elsewhere.

The iPhone can be ordered online from the Apple website, but there is a two to four week wait for delivery.

According to the iPhone website, they suggest checking availability after 9:00 p.m. the night before you would like to purchase an iPhone. Apple states that iPhones arrive “most days and availability is updated nightly.”

Apple also encourages people to get to the store when it first opens. “Phone sales start at 9:00 a.m.” There is also the Golden Rule of customer service for any store: “First come, first served.”

The best way to see if the store is going to have the iPhone for the day you would like to get one, is to call the night before, after 9:00 p.m.. Once you know the store will have the iPhones in stock then you can make your plans to purchase one.

For some reason, the iPhone appears to be challenging to find on the West Coast, but it is easier to get on the East Coast. The New York, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania stores have stock. But the California, Oregon and Washington stores appear to be out of stock. Southern states are “mixed”. Texas is sold out of iPhones. Florida does have iPhones available. The online store has a two to four week wait time.

Once customers purchase their new iPhone they will most likely need to dispose of their old one. Cell phone recycling is one way to do this and proceeds can benefit a charitable organization.

Businesses, groups and individuals can provide support to educational and nonprofit organizations without cost by registering for the recycling program and sending old phones in to the cell phone recycling center. New iPhone owners can celebrate while their own phones can go to a good cause.

If you think of apple pie as having two crusts and a filling of apples combined with sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg, some of the regional variations may surprise you. Apple cobbler, apple pandowdy, apple puff, apple crisp, apple brown betty are all variations of apple pie in different regions. In the South and Southwest you’ll find deep-fried apple pie, a variation that matches melt-in-your-mouth flaky fried crust with sweet, diced apples in a syrupy sauce. And in Pennsylvania, the home of the Pennsylvania Dutch, Apple Crumb Pie and Apple Pandowdy take the place of Apple Pie a la Mode on most restaurant menus.

Industry rumours and latest press reports say that O2 is poised to sign an exclusive contract with Apple to allow it to be selling the iPhone in time for the Christmas sales rush.

O2 spokesman have currently declined to comment on the iPhone deal.

The long awaited iPhone was released in the US this weekend and sold 500,000 in the first two days. Customers were queuing for hours outside stores before the launch. Some people waited in line for days to buy the iPhone when Apple opened it doors on the day of release.

Anticipation was running to fever pitch over the release of the iPhone ever since the design was unveiled in January. The device combines a camera, music player, internet browser and of course a mobile. All of which is controlled by a touch screen.

The rumoured agreement with between O2 and Apple is said to include a continuing share for Apple of the revenue generated by the network operator O2.
O2 are expected to retail the Apple iPhone for around £300 on a monthly mobile phone contract. It is thought that this highly fashionable mobile phone cross with iPod will be enough to win over customers to O2 from rival Mobile Phones networks.
O2 is a leading provider of mobile services to consumers and businesses in the UK. It is the leader in non-voice services, including text, media messaging, games, music and video, as well as data connections via GPRS, 3G and WLAN.

O2 was formed in 2001 following the demerger from British Telecom of its former mobile business, BT Wireless.

The Apple Iphone has been the newest of new gadgets to sweep this years buyers list and the astounding thing is most didn’t buy to use for themselves, they were bought for the huge profit to gain from there 600.00 purchase to double that investment.

Apple iphones got some good advantages but as well have disadvantages like everything we buy in todays growing electronic races around the world. Some complain cause the battery doesn’t last long enough to enjoy it and some complain of the heat issues it comes with, to prolonged use of the iphone.

Apple had many issues with activation problems for a lot of folks but was easy to do with others gaining access use of there iphone within only 15 minutes of purchasing there brand new apple iphone. Apple sure did come out with a handy new invention that covers a lot of area’s people look for like tunes on the go, major storage for movies or mp3’s and the internet connectivity.

The reviews i’ve been reading cover good durability from a distance of 5 ft. for accidentally dropping your iphone on the concrete, great durability for scratch resistance with keys and other sharp methods of damaging the apple iphone.

What really is the kicker to me is the way in which people decide to buy there iphone’s. I myself would rather sit the first round out and see the issues build up, cause theres always going to be product issues on a first release of something new.

Like the PS3 and the PS2 they both had serious heating issues and the lasers going out in them. After the second release of these products for the most part a lot of these issues were fixed, but to spend a fortune to have to return or wait for a new replacement is not what I want to be waiting on.

All in all said and done the apple seems to be a good hit for the summer release of there new Apple iphone, hopefully in the near future we can fix and debug any serious or small issues the iphone may have now or in the future.

It almost seems as if Apple waited to see which mobile devices would be the most popular before combining them all into one truly ground breaking device known as the iPhone. In the past few years, cell phone manufacturers have been doing everything they can to win over customers with their own unique thing. Unique and attractive enough to get people to pay extra to have access.

This began with text messaging and the camera phone and quickly expanded into cell phones that are Internet ready where you can check your Email and surf different web sites. The next thing that every mobile phone manufacturer is trying to perfect is video. Video is nothing new to mobile phone, but the quality is not so great. Another major issue when trying to stream video from the Internet is the bandwidth causing buffering issues. There are two things that must happen, either the video will have to take up enough bandwidth on mobile networks or parallel networks must be constructed just to give you the ability to watch videos on your cell phone. There are some wireless providers that are already doing this.

The great thing about the soon to be released Apple iPhone is that it is a combination of the most popular and commonly used mobile devices such as a cell phone, a digital camera, text messaging, email, web browsing, voice communication, and best of all the functions of a video iPod, and the benefits of a Palm Treo. That isn’t all, there are actually many more useful features that make the iPhone more user friendly. This one device allows users to have access to many different functions of entertainment, communication, and productivity options with you at all times. The scheduled release date is in 2007.

AT&T will be the only cell phone networks that will have the ability to sell you service for your iPhone. AT&T is one of the largest wireless manufacturers in America with more than sixty million customers. Again the Apple iPhone will be ready in retail stores sometime in late June when it is released by Apple. The 4GB will run you about $499 and the 8GB will cost you a little more at about $599.

They knew the iPhone was coming and they did nothing about it.

Granted, Apple might not even gain more than 1% of the market in 2007. Or will they?

Everyone has known for perhaps up to two years that Apple was coming after the phone market. That’s like knowing you’re city is going to be invaded and having two years to prepare for it. And what did the handset makers do about it?

They built a few mp3 phones for which you need an expansion card just to bring them up to 1Gb of storage space.

That’s like building a moat around your city but leaving the draw-bridge down when your attackers arrive.

I think Sony-Ericsson was the only manufacturer that even made any kind of an effort to get ready to compete with Apple. They came out with phones that are expandable up to 4GB. But they’re not anywhere near what the iPhone will be in terms of an all-in-one product.

To the handset manufacturers: Are you really all that stupid?

Why not give people what they want? You could have been first-to-market. You could have beat Apple to the punch. You could have been the first hard drive phone maker. You could have had a two year head-start. You could have wrested away *some* top-of-the-mind-awareness that will go along with the iPhone.

You thought the RAZR was successful? You ain’t seen nothing yet.

Furthermore, Apple is scheduled to come to market over the next few months with several new products that should garner significant attention and drive incremental business. Apple also chose to control a greater percentage of its product distribution due to the differentiated nature of its products, a strategy that has been successful to date and may have played a key role in the company’s ability to hold PC market share in two of the past three quarters after consistently losing share in the marketplace for each of the past four years.

Our analysis indicates iTunes has the potential to be somewhat accretive to the overall business model if downloads continue to increase at their current pace and Apple can increase the number of songs downloaded per session, which would leverage the fixed credit check costs the company incurs per order. However, industry experts believe it will add only a few pennies to the bottom line as Apple continues to reinvest in the business. The main value iTunes brings to Apple’s business is increased awareness of Apple’s products and Web site traffic, which Apple can use to cross-sell its other products, especially iPod.

Understandably, Apple wants to avoid selling PCs at a loss, but unfortunately the growth prospects for $1,000-plus PCs are limited. This presents a conundrum for Apple longer term, but for now it maintains its current strategy. Incidentally, Apple’s revenue share has held much better, and while this is not an often-discussed topic, revenue share is probably more important than unit share. With regard to the compatibility of Windows and Mac OS X, even though Apple made a concerted effort to educate consumers about the ease with which these two products work together, it has fallen on deaf ears for the most part. Apple made some progress through its retail stores, where it estimates half of Mac purchases are from first-time buyers, but for Apple’s stock to work over the long term, the company needs to maintain share against Windows, at a minimum.

On a brighter note and possibly a sign of things to come, Apple reported strong Mac growth in its June quarter and held share. The June quarter is seasonally slow for most computer companies, but it is the education buying season, a market where Apple is regaining lost share. The iPhone is a multimedia and Internet-enabled mobile phone, announced by Apple CEO Steve Jobs during the keynote address at the Macworld Conference & Expo on 9 January 2007, that is scheduled to be released on 29 June 2007 in the U.S. at 6 p.m in an unspecified time zone.

The iPhone’s features include those of a camera phone, a multimedia player, mobile phone, and Internet services like e-mail, text messaging, web browsing, Visual Voicemail and wireless connectivity. iPhone input is accomplished via touchscreen with virtual keyboard and buttons. The iPhone is a quad-band GSM phone, though Jobs mentioned in his keynote that Apple has a “plan to make 3G phones” in the future.Apple has filed more than 200 patents related to the technology behind the iPhone.

The iPhone’ s pricing and availability is subject to speculation, but is expected to be available initially from the Apple Store and from AT&T Mobility, formerly Cingular Wireless, with a price of US$499 for the 4 GB model and US$599 for the 8 GB model, based on a two-year service contract. Apple intends to make the phone available in Europe in Q4 2007 and in Asia in 2008.

Blackfriars Marketing noted an average of two to three customers coming out of the Apple stores with iPhones on Friday night every single minute. With this fact, they considered that at peak time, sales for Apple could have reached 30,000 per hour. Between Apple and AT&T it is believed that they have sold 500,000 iPhones the opening weekend. Trip Chowdhry of Global Equities Research estimates that the number of iPhones sold that opening weekend would be a bit higher: 525,000.

The Wall Street Journal Online afternoon report stated that:

“Goldman Sachs pegged weekend sales at least 700,000 units — double its prediction of 350,000 — and raised its projection for iPhone sales to 5.3 million from four million. J.P. Morgan analysts were considerably less sanguine, saying Apple would recognize 312,000 unit sales for the just-ended quarter. “We believe initial demand may have been disappointing, but it’s still early,” they wrote.”

All this buying frenzy led to empty shelves at Apple Stores and AT&T outlets across the country. The iPhone can be ordered online from the Apple website, but there is a two to four week wait for delivery. Not surprisingly the iPhone is already available at online auction site eBay.com.

In fact an auction was just how the first iPhone itself was obtained. One person paid $100,000 to get the popular phone – and to support a good cause. As of this writing the lucky winner still remains anonymous. Proceeds for the charity auction benefited Keep A Child Alive, a charity that gives anti-retroviral treatment to children with AIDS in Africa.

Users will be able to download music and videos with the phone, demonstrated by Apple boss Steve Jobs at the annual Macworld Expo in San Francisco.

Mr Jobs praised the phone’s design and told the audience the “magical device” would “revolutionise the industry”.

The phone, which will cost from $499 (£257) to $599, will be launched in the US in June and Europe later this year.

Apple is not yet saying how much the iPhone will cost in the UK, but using the comparison of a Mac mini computer the 4 gigabyte (GB) model would be about £335.

Also revealed at the Macworld Expo was Apple TV, a device to stream music and movies from a computer to the living room.

‘Super-smart’

The announcement ended months of speculation about the iPhone, which has no conventional buttons but instead uses a large touch-screen.

The firm has patented keyboard technology on the 11.6mm thick phone, calling it “multi-touch”.

It is essentially a computer with a blank screen that users configure so they can operate the monitor with their fingers.

But as the hype piled up Jobs told us we were witnessing history and he was going to reinvent the telephone – some doubts crept in.

“We are all born with the ultimate pointing device – our fingers – and iPhone uses them to create the most revolutionary user interface since the mouse,” said Mr Jobs.

A full touch keyboard is available for text messaging and there is a built-in two megapixel camera.

Mr Jobs said the iPhone was a “revolutionary and magical product that is literally five years ahead of any other mobile phone”.

“It works like magic… It’s far more accurate than any touch display ever shipped. It ignores unintended touches. It’s super-smart.”

Ever wondered why the Company was named, Apple Computer? Simply because the trio realized that “Apple” would come before the most famous name in computers at the time, Atari. Over the years, Apple Computers continued to improve, becoming cheaper thereby making it easier for many homes to have a personal computer. Apple was the first computer company to use GUI (Graphical User Interface) in their machines; a concept that was to revolutionize the computer industry. After many trials and errors, Apple came out with a true home computer, the Apple Macintosh or Mac in 1984.

The Apple Computer was the beginning of desktop publishing era. Apple revolutionized publishing with its magic combination of a PC, it’s LaserWriter printer and specialized software, Aldus PageMaker and MacPublisher. Aldus is now Adobe PageMaker. These components allowed the designing and printing of documents complete with text and graphics. It is for this reason that the Macintosh is still a favorite among the graphic design crowd.

Apple faced stiff competition from Microsoft, especially in relation to the cost of PC-clones. Apple’s popularity waned and the home PC market was taken over by Bill Gates’ Microsoft. However, there are still many different lines of Macs on the market today: the iMac and Power Mac being two of the most popular.

A common fruit, the apple is perhaps underrated in its medicinal properties. Most regard it as just a healthy fruit or a dessert ingredient but are unaware of its other uses when it comes to aromatherapy.

History

With its history stretching back to the ages of time, the apple was rightly termed as King of Fruits before the Southeast Asian durian made its unique entrance. Apple had its origins in Southwest Asia between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea. Findings show that lake dwellers in central Europe had used apple as far back as the Stone Age era.

Its offspring, the green apple, was successively cultivated in 1850 and is now grown in France at Loire Valley, Provence, Languedoc-Roussillon, Aquitaine and Midi-Pyrenees.

In the 2nd century, Galen, a famous physician to the emperors and gladiators, prescribed apple wine as a panacea for nearly all ailments.

Apple is also an affectionate reminiscence of our childhood years with “now White” giving it a magical symbolism. In fact, apples are also mentioned in three other Grimm’s fairy tales, which are taken from old folklores.

Uncovering ancient therapy, we would see a concoction of apple pulp, swine’s grease and rosewater being used to beautify the complexion and smoothen the skin. The juice of sour apple was used to remove warts.

Dr John Caius, physician to Queen Elizabeth, advised the patient to “smele to an old swete apple to recover his strength”.

Ecology

Located in temperate regions at a substantial height above sea level, the apple tree is a small deciduous tree with a dense crown and gray bark. Its toothed, elliptical leaves grow with pink-flushed and white flowers on short side twigs. The apple tree blooms in spring and harvest would be ripe from September to April of the following year. The fruit is rounded and depressed at each end.

There are altogether 7000 kinds of apples throughout the world, with yellow, green, red or combination skin colours. Sweet-tasting apples are often directly consumed whilst sour-tasting ones are used for cooking, making wine or refining into essential oil. The green apple, which belongs more to the latter category, comes with a greenish radiant skin and juicy flesh that gives a refreshing taste with every bite. With its high-fibre contents and thirst-quenching properties, the apple proves to be a favourite among ladies.

Apples are cultivated across North America and brought into the prairies in eastern United States, South Canada and the Pacific states.

Health Notes

Apples contain malic and tartaric acids which neutralise indigestion, hence preventing constipation and diarrhea. A source of pectin, protein, calcium, carbohydrates, sodium, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, zinc and iron, apples also help to purify blood, stop bleeding, clear gout and rheumatism, prevent gallstones, maintain cleanliness of the teeth, reduce cholesterol level and enhance memory. It is even described by the medical profession as a natural health food.

In the field of Chinese medicine, apples are devoid of toxins, promote the secretion of body fluids, quench thirst, nourish the lungs and gallbladder, eliminate worries, enhance stomach and spleen functions and have a sobering effect when one is drunk.
